In the heart of Austin, Texas, in 2010, two neighbors and self-professed coffee geeks created something so profound that it demanded to be shared with the world. Months of experimenting with different formulas and brewing methods had produced the best coffee they’d ever tasted. Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee was born.
Founders Chris Campbell and Steve Williams each brought a unique perspective but shared a deep-seated passion for coffee. A recent escapee of Corporate America, Chris was intrigued by the promise of cold brewed coffee but never tasted anything up to his standards. Steve, meanwhile, had long been a fixture in Austin’s coffee scene, as owner of a 24-hour coffee shop celebrated for its knowledgeable staff and high quality offerings.
The two men saw the opportunity to craft a better cold-brew and seized it. They tried and tried (and tried), until they achieved the right blend of highly select, perfectly roasted Arabica beans (100% organic, of course), pure Hill Country water, and brewing time and temperature. The result was a revelation, from its exceptionally smooth, rich flavor to its dramatically reduced acidity to the jitter-free punch of natural caffeine it provided.
Chris and Steve had brewed the perfect batch of cold-brew coffee.
They’d captured the very essence of coffee and soon began bottling it. Their original product, a black coffee concentrate, could be enjoyed hot or cold, straight black or mixed with water, dairy or any other flavor. Limited only by their imaginations, fans increasingly discovered (and shared) all sorts of ways to make Chameleon Cold-Brew Coffee their very own.
More and more happy customers and buyers soon demanded more and more products and flavors. Chris and Steve listened and began meticulously testing and tinkering once again. In 2012, they introduced a series of flavored, multi-serving cold-brew coffee concentrates and followed that with a companion series of single-serving, “ready to drink” coffees in 2013.
Chameleon Cold-Brew has grown over the years, but Chris and Steve and their uncompromising standards remain the foundation of our company. We’re excited to be in a growing number of natural grocers and larger retailers around the country but are forever proud of our roots in Austin, Texas. And we still stand behind every bottle.
